Governor McDonnell addresses veterans
on first day in office

Governor Bob McDonnell met briefly with members of the Joint Leadership Council of Veterans Service Organizations (JLC) on his first business day in office, January 18, 2010. The Governor advised veterans that he would use incentives to encourage veterans and retired military members to remain in Virginia. These incentives could include waiving administrative and licensing fees for veterans planning on starting small businesses. McDonnell promised to continue funding for the Virginia Wounded Warrior Program. This program assists veterans and their families in obtaining treatment and other support services for combat stress and traumatic brain injuries including depression and post traumatic stress disorder. The Governor also said he would help streamline services for veterans.

The JLC is comprised of members from 23 veterans service organizations in Virginia and advises the Virginia Department of Veterans Services on issues affecting veterans and their families. The Council actively advocates for veterans issues that may be remedied through legislative action or other means.
