The cemetery is open to the public for visitation everyday during daylight hours. Cemetery administrative offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The cemetery administrative office may be reached at (540) 674-6893.

After normal business hours, funeral directors can call (540) 315-2072 to schedule interment services.

Provisions for pre-application

For expediency, the veteran may apply prior to death to determine eligibility for interment in the cemetery.

Please remember that in addition to the pre-application form, you must submit documentation of military service (DD214 or equivalent) and a copy of a marriage certificate, if applicable. You must also inform cemetery management of other dependent eligibility status at time of application.

Project overview

The Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery is located on an 80-acre parcel of land transferred from the Department of the Army, Radford Arsenal to the Commonwealth of Virginia in 2008. The cemetery will be developed in four phases as grave sites are needed. Phase 1 construction covers 24 acres and includes the main entrance area, full casketed and cremation burial areas, a columbarium, a memorial garden and scatter garden areas, roads, an assembly area, committal shelter, cemetery office, maintenance complex, and supporting infrastructure. Interment areas include 4,000 standard burial plots; 2,750 pre-placed crypts; 500 in-ground cremation spaces, and 625 columbarium niches.
