VWM Livestreams – Trumpeting Equality: The Women’s Suffrage March of 1913

  • Date: 03/19/2025 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
  • Location: Virtual

The day before Woodrow Wilson’s first inauguration, March 3, 1913, women from around the nation marched in Washington, D.C., for the right to vote. Miss Inez Milholland, dressed in royal purple astride a white horse, signaled the start of the march with her trumpet. Reaction from the large crowd along the parade route was mixed. Many cheered in support while others roughly obstructed the suffragists in opposition. Troops from Ft. Myer were called to protect those marching. Join Virginia War Memorial Director of Education Jim Triesler as he explores the march of the suffragists and the inauguration of the last president born in Virginia.
