Sixty-five years ago, May 1, 1960, pilot Francis Gary Powers, Sr. was shot down over the Soviet Union while flying a U-2 spy plane. The incident increased tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union. Powers was tried, found guilty and sentenced to ten years in a Soviet prison. Join Virginia War Memorial Director of Education Jim Triesler as he discusses this important event in Cold War history.
