DESCRIPTION:<p>The Virginia War Memorial will once again transform into a powerful display of remembrance as more than 12,000 American flags are installed across its hillside. Hill of Heroes runs from June 26 through the morning of July 10, 2026. The Virginia War Memorial Foundation is proud to support this Memorial Tribute.</p><p>The flags are placed to honor and remember the nearly 12,000 Virginia men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in military service from World War II to present day, and whose names are inscribed on the Memorial’s Shrine of Memory.</p><p><strong>Flag Retrieval:</strong> We are seeking volunteers to assist in the removal of the flags on Friday, July 10 from 8 – 11 a.m. The removal typically takes 2-3 hours, depending on weather conditions, the number of participants, and the condition of the flag sticks.
