In 1898, the United States fought a global war in the Caribbean and the South Pacific. Called upon to fight, the 9th and 10th Cavalry and the 24th and 25th Infantry Regiments consisted primarily of Black soldiers in a segregated military. The Richmond Planet, an African American newspaper founded in 1882 and edited by John Mitchell, Jr., told the story of the men who served in that global conflict.
