Visitors to military installations and federal buildings will need to present a Real ID for access beginning May 7, 2025.
The Real ID Act, originally passed by Congress in 2005 set prescribed minimum security standards for government-issued identification, including drivers licenses.
With this change, anyone accessing federal and military installations will need Real ID-compliant identification.
If a visitor does not have a Real ID, a combination of acceptable credentials can also be used. Alternate credentials include a passport or a Federal/DOD PIV card, or a combination of non-compliant driver's license and another identification card, such as a Transportation Worker's ID Card or Veteran Health ID Card.
