MITS-GIVES, INC. Announces Creation of Honor Guard Corps at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia

(Chesapeake, Virginia) Oct. 20, 2022 MITS-GIVES, INC., a new charity to support veterans, their families, and the community in Hampton Roads, founded by MI Technical Solutions, Inc., has announced its first project to support the creation of the Honor Guard Corps and build a support facility at the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia.

The Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, operated by the Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of Veterans Services, provides burial services for approximately 1,500 veterans each year. Currently, approximately 10% of the veterans interred at the cemetery receive “full” military funeral honors, which includes a three-round ceremonial rifle volley (AKA “21-gun salute”).

To ensure that more veterans receive funeral honors, MITS-GIVES, INC. has partnered with the Virginia Department of Veterans Services (DVS) to establish the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Honor Guard Corps (AGHMHGC).  The goal of the ACHMHGC is to provide honors to all who request them.

Daniel Gade, Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Veterans Services notes, “We believe that all veterans deserve a fitting final tribute as they are laid to rest in our Veterans Cemetery.  With the creation of the Honor Guard at the Albert G. Horton, Jr, Memorial Veterans Cemetery, we can now fulfill that sacred obligation.  This is just another demonstration of the commitment and generosity of the Hampton Roads community.  Our community partners are critical to our mission to honor and serve our veterans.”

The Honor Guard will be ready for service on Memorial Day 2023. Veterans will be honored and recognized with a 21-gun salute and a flag folding ceremony.

In addition, MITS-GIVES, INC. is partnering with DVS to build an Honor Guard building at the Suffolk cemetery.

Sponsors to date include MI Technical Solutions, Pinnacle Group Engineering, Bowman Foster Electrical, Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Twenty-three Alumni (NMCB 23 Alumni), Scott Richie, Floor Coverings International, Bear Concrete, Axis Global, and Tuff Shed.

If any veteran would like to join the Honor Guard, please apply online. If anyone in the community would like to donate or support the project, please contact MITS-GIVES, INC. online. MI Technical Solutions, Inc. will add 10% to each online donation. Learn more at www.MITS-GIVES.org.
