The Virginia Department of Veterans Services Announces Memorial Day Ceremonies to be held at Virginia War Memorial and State Veterans Cemeteries

The 61st  Annual Commonwealth’s Memorial Day Ceremony will be held Monday, May 29 at 10 a.m. at the Virginia War Memorial, 621 S. Belvidere Street, Richmond. Admission is free. Parking is available in the Memorial lot, in the Virginia Housing Development Authority (VHDA) lot and deck next door, and in the Afton Chemical Corporation lot on Spring Street between Belvidere and 1st Streets.

The Memorial will be open extended hours from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Memorial Day.to tour the exhibits and experience the films shown in the Memorial’s Paul and Phyllis Galanti Education Center all day.

Virginia’s three State Veterans Cemeteries will hold public Memorial Day ceremonies. See below for times and directions. An Avenue of Flags will be placed at each cemetery entrance and all grave sites will be graced with a flag. The administration offices will be open from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. to assist veterans and their families with grave site location, general information, and the completion of cemetery pre-application forms for interested qualified veterans and family members.
