Amelia - Virginia Veterans Cemetery

The Virginia Veterans Cemetery is open to the public for visitation every day during daylight hours. The cemetery administrative office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except for federal and state holidays. The cemetery administrative office may be reached at 855-4VA-VETS (855-482-8387, press option 4) during business hours.

After hours calls will be returned the next business day.

With the exception of holiday weekends, a cemetery caretaker will be available on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to assist visitors locating a gravesite. Funeral directors should call 855-4VA-VETS (855-482-8387, press option 4) during normal business hours to schedule interment services. If a cemetery team member does not answer, please leave a message.

For expediency, the veteran may apply prior to death to determine eligibility for interment in the cemetery.

Please remember that in addition to the pre-application form, you must submit documentation of military service (DD214 or equivalent) and a copy of a marriage certificate, if applicable. You must also inform cemetery management of other dependent eligibility status at the time of application.

Pre-Application Form

• Outer burial receptacles are not required for in-ground casketed burials at Amelia. Amelia has in ground crypts that can accommodate all caskets.
• No Cost: USDVA-provided outer burial receptacles for second interments are provided to the veteran/eligible dependents.

To commemorate Memorial Day, flags will be placed on all gravesites and the Avenue of Flags will be erected along the circle drive. The administration office will be open from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. to assist veterans and their families with gravesite location, general information, and filling out the cemetery pre-application form.

The cemetery administrative office will be opened from 9am to 3pm on (November 11). Employees will be available to answer questions about pre-applications, benefits of burial in one of Virginia's state-operated veteran’s cemeteries, and cemetery operation procedures. Employees will also be available to assist visitors with locating grave sites. The cemetery will be in full dress with the Avenue of Flags flying and individual flags on each gravesite.
