Sleep problems are one of the most common problems for veterans returning from a deployment. Changes in schedule, environment, noise, and pace, among other things, effect sleep so it’s no wonder that this is a common issue.
Sleep problems are also at times symptoms of post traumatic stress and traumatic brain injury. Among the 229,000 OIF and OEF veterans who sought treatment at the VA since 2002, 90% of combat veterans diagnosed with PTSD experience difficulty initiating and maintaining sleep. 52% of combat veterans with PTSD experience nightmares.
