Virginia Veteran and Family Support Announces May is Mental Health Awareness Month

May has been recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month since 1949.  Each year the goal is to facilitate public recognition of the importance of mental health and the overall health and wellness of those around us.  During May, Mental Health organizations across the country target their outreach efforts to fight the stigma of Mental Health, provide support, educate the public and advocate for equal care. As an agency serving the needs of our veterans, we believe that these issues are important to address all year round, but highlighting these issues during May provides a time for individuals within each community to come together to improve lives of Americans struggling with Mental Health challenges. 1 in 5 Americans will be affected by a mental health condition at some time in their life and as a community we interact with family and friends of those affected every day.  During the Month of May, please help us increase awareness about the impact mental health conditions have on our veterans and other members within our community.
