Artifacts Roadshow Returns To Virginia War Memorial January 27
Public Invited to Bring in Military Memorabilia for Free Expert Reviews
(Richmond, Va.) Whether it’s an old uniform, cap or helmet; a box of medals and ribbons; a flag; a sword; or a canteen – every piece of military memorabilia has a unique story to tell. So, if you want to learn more about a military-related item that’s been passed down through the family or found in the attic, bring it in for a free expert review at the Artifacts Roadshow-Winter Edition, Saturday, January 27 at the Virginia War Memorial in Richmond.
From 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Virginia War Memorial Curator Jesse Smith and noted military memorabilia experts Robert House and Warren Shindle will be on hand in the Paul and Phyllis Galanti Education Center to personally review and offer their insights on the origin and history of military items from any era – from the Revolutionary War, Civil War, World War I and II, Korea, Vietnam to today’s Global War on Terrorism.
Admission to the Artifacts Roadshow is free as are the reviews. Donations to the non-profit Virginia War Memorial Foundation are appreciated. The Memorial is located at 621 South Belvidere Street.
Since the first Artifacts Roadshow was held in January 2012, this program has been become one of the Virginia War Memorial’s most popular public events. While the experts will be pleased to tell the story about each items reviewed and give preservation tips, they cannot offer appraisals or monetary evaluations of individual items.
“We always look forward to seeing the items brought in for review,” said the Memorial’s Curator Jesse Smith. “We are always astounded by the variety and often we have the opportunity to tell a person that their item is rare and valuable.”
Small arms, weapons and ordinance items brought to the Roadshow will be checked, inspected and tagged by trained staff before review. No vendor or dealer sales or purchases are allowed on the Virginia War Memorial grounds during this event.
