Outer burial containers are required for in-ground casketed burials at the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. An outer burial container is an enclosure (made of reinforced concrete with a domed lid or of steel) in which caskets are placed.
For burials requiring a standard-sized casket, an outer burial container must be purchased by the veteran or family. The cemetery sells standard-sized outer burial containers at cost for $400. Veterans and their families also have the option to purchase an outer burial container and placement services from a funeral home or other source.
For burials requiring an oversized casket, an oversized outer burial container must be purchased by the veteran or family. The cemetery sells oversized outer burial containers at cost for $450. Veterans and their families also have the option to purchase an oversized outer burial container and placement services from a funeral home or other source.
All outer burial containers sold by the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery meet quality and performance standards set by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Outer burial containers purchased from a funeral home or other source must meet the same standards.
A group of local and interested friends have joined together to form the Horton Wreath Society. The goal of the group, which meets monthly, is to raise enough donated funds each year to purchase a live wreath for each gravesite at the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. We appreciate your support and help, and hope to continue this honor in coming years.
We hope you will consider making a contribution to this recognition of our veterans. Please make contributions to the Horton Wreath Society, and mail to Horton Wreath Society Treasurer, 1401 Trapelo Court, Virginia Beach, VA 23456
If donations are not sufficient to place a wreath on every gravesite, wreaths will be placed in garden sections on a rotational basis.
